Cumbria is steeped with myth and folklore, and there are plenty of historic sites to back up the legends.

Visit the dominant fortress that is Carlisle Castle, beautiful Carlisle Cathedral or stunning Lowther Castle and Gardens for historic architecture. But if you want to go further back in time why not stop by the ancient Castlerigg Stone Circle, the mystical Long Meg and her Daughters, King Arthur’s Round Table, Penrith Castle or the impressive Lanercost Priory. Of course, let’s not forget Hadrian’s Wall!
